100% Renewables: How NC Governments, Utilities, and Industry Plan To Reach Clean Energy Goals
So you have a 100% clean energy goal. Now what?
Across the world, public-sector leaders are pursuing goals to provide 100% of their power needs from renewable energy to meet goals for sustainability, grid reliability, energy independence, and cost reductions. Cities are responsible for over 70% of global GHG emissions from energy use, so transitioning to renewables presents a tremendous opportunity to reduce climate impact - and with decreasing costs of renewable technologies and increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, more and more communities are pursuing 100% renewable goals.
In North Carolina, over 10 local governments have formally committed to transition to 100% renewable energy over the next 10-30 years (Apex resolution 2019, Asheville 2018, Buncombe County 2017, Carrboro 2017, Charlotte 2018, Durham 2019, Durham County 2018, Franklin 2017, Hillsborough 2017, Orange County 2017, Wake County 2018) and others have supported 100% renewable energy goals for the state (Boone, Chatham County, Macon County, Sylva, Watauga County, and Waynesville).
But how will these communities achieve 100% renewable energy? What technologies will they rely on? How can utilities and renewable energy developers accelerate the transition?
Hear from a panel of cleantech industry experts and North Carolina municipalities on the complex factors impacting communities? transition to 100% renewable energy, and network with regional leaders changing the world through cleantech.
