The regional business community is leading a tour this summer to Richmond and northern Virginia to visit two bus rapid transit systems – the Richmond Pulse and the Metroway serving Alexandria and Arlington – and the Virginia Railway Express commuter rail service in northern Virginia. In addition, we will learn about the Flash BRT system, currently under construction in suburban Maryland, and visit a freeway cap in Richmond. We will also receive an evening address from Mr. Matt Welbes, the executive director of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).
Elected officials, transportation partners, and business and community leaders will attend the tour to learn more about transit planning, implementation, and lessons learned; land use and affordable housing near transit; station and corridor design; community engagement; and more.
The June 2019 RTA tour — held in concert with the chambers of commerce serving Durham and Chapel Hill-Carrboro — will provide new findings, insights, and perspectives as our region prepares to implement multiple bus rapid transit lines, initiate commuter rail, and update transit plans in Durham and Orange counties. Read more about our opportunity to advance enhanced transit in this recent RTA blog.
